Write To Ride club supporters, the Fallen Heroes MCC are hosting a Bike Safety
Awareness Open Day, on the 18th April 2010 at Comber Fire Station from Midday
to 4pm.
The Fallen Heroes MCC was formed in October 2009 by a few mates from County
Down in Northern Ireland, all with a common interest, Motorcycle Road Racing!
“The club is dedicated to the enjoyment and freedom provided by the sport we
call motorcycling, to the racers and normal people who have devoted so much to
the sport, to the memory of the many riders who have paid the ultimate price
for the sport we love and to the mates who have fallen over the years.”
By hosting the Bike Safety Awareness Open Day, the club recognises that riding
on the road is a whole different ball game and the PSNI Bikesafe rider skills
assessment is the perfect introduction to skills on Hazard Awareness -
Defensive Riding Technique - Junction Awareness - Cornering - Overtaking.
The club has picked the perfect time for the event - before biking season
begins (hopefully with good weather and less rain), as riders come out of
hibernation (The Secret Life Of Bikers) dust off their motorcycle gear and
polish their helmets.
Bikesafe
The Bikesafe team will be taking riders out on an assessed ride, their
assessment will be based on professional riding techniques and is designed to
enhance the skills of riders who have already passed their test.
Topics covered include how to control your bike, the common factors which lead
to a collision and advise on how to become a safer, more competent rider.
Remember Bikesafe NI is a Rider Skills Assessment – not Advanced Training.
That part is up to you!
Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service -
Northern Ireland Ambulance Service
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Ireland
Ambulance Service will be putting on a practical display on how they deal with
a motorcycle collision.
Displays
Local motorcycle racers, Kirk Jamison and Robbie Richardson will be at the
event with their race bikes and in the pipeline, there are a few more bikes
and celebrities lined up.
More details here as attendance is confirmed.
Light refreshments, not so much a big bacon bap, but definitely tea and coffee
and the promise of soup,” just like your mother used to make”, will be
provided by “Men on a Mission” a local voluntary organisation which supports
projects in Ethiopia.
Apart from the Bikesafe assessment, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue
Service and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service practical display, racers
display and what’s in the pipeline, there will be some other light
entertainment put on, details to follow.
Then there is always the “craic” - general banter - just talking bikes - and a
fair amount more.
In Association with: PSNI Bikesafe - Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue -
Northern Ireland Ambulance Service - Ride It Right - Men On A Mission - Kirk
Jamison with Race Bikes - Robbie Richardson with Race Bikes - and many many
more!!!!!
